"This session occurred sometime prior to April 9, 1962 when the tape master for this album was assembled. It most likely took place in February when Stitt was working in New York or the first week of April, as he recorded an album with this group for Riverside in New York on April 4." Sonny Stitt (as) on c-e, i, (ts) on a-c, f-h; Dexter Gordon (ts) on a-b, d-i.

According to reissue producer Michael Cuscuna, the one track issued on a Blue Note anthology CD and the box set of Dexter Gordon’s complete 1960's recordings for the label is the only releasable music from this sesssion. It was abandoned after producer Alfred Lion had stopped the last take listed here. Different stories or rather rumors exist about Stitt and Gordon drinking too much, or not having rehearsed the new material, and Lion being dissatisfied with nothing but re-recordings of well known standards. Weeden regretted this session was „ruined“.

This session was recorded by Argo in Chicago, but only one 45 rpm single was released, since the masters were claimed by Prestige, the label which had a contract with Gene Ammons at the time. Only the two released titles were reissued. Ruppl's Chess Labels Discgraphy lists only the two issued titles. The three unissued tracks are listed in a discography of Paul Weeden's recordings.

The 45 rpm issue 257 does not show track timings.
Beano could be the same tune as Bean-O that is credited to Eddie Davis. Master number 3655 is listed as an unissued take of this tune. This Can't Be Love, is not listed in any discography but was issued on Prestige LP 7456 together with five leftover tracks from sessions involving organist Shirley Scott, that also featured Davis on one track. The liner notes of Prestige LP 7456 do not state recording dates, but the personnel credited suggests the track might be from this session, although an audible string bass player is not credited. Aural evidence supports this, as does the fact that Ozzie Cadena supervised both. The listing of an unissued take of Beano probably is a mistake.

Sonny Stitt (as-var) on c-d, f, h, j, (ts-var) on a-b, e, g, i.

The CD credits list a drummer named "Billy Pierce"; it probably is a misattribution, as this is the only occasion this name is found in all discographies I had access to. Billy James was the drummer on all sessions of the Patterson-Stitt team before and after.

Sonny Stitt (as-var) on a-d, f-j.

For contractual reasons, Grant Green was credited as "Blue Grant" on the Prestige LP issues. Sonny Stitt is credited for playing tenor saxophone, "electric sax", or tenor sax (Varitone) on the Prestige LP and CD issues, except for PR 7852, which says alto sax. What it actually seems to be judging from sound and range is an alto sax with Varitone attachment.

There is no evidence that this session, Patterson's last, was released on LP. The CD was issued in 1996.
The recordings studio mentioned in the CD credits (Gamble and Huff) is incorrect, see the review stated below.
