Notes by Ira Gitler to "Winchester Special": In 1958, Leonard Feather heard a tape of Lem and as a result presented him to Saturday afternoon's audience at the Newport Jazz Festival of that year.

Bruyninckx lists this as by Lem Winchester-John Chowning Collegiates and dates as "probably December 1960 or early January 1961" but John Chowning confirms that this was the recording his father sent to Leonard Feather. The limited edition LP was sold through the Wittenberg College bookstore. According to Bruyninckx, this material was scheduled to appear as Delmark DL 405, but has never been reissued.

According to Chowning, quartet selections were recorded first and one or two additional quartet selections were recorded but not issued.

h listed as "Jericho".

Details courtesy of David Arnold, John Chowning, and George Lindamood.

"The MGM Labels" by Ruppli & Novitsky gives three master numbers but is uncertain of sequence. Library of Congress listing indicates original performance order on independently recorded tape.
